Divination is a form of gaining insight from a higher intelligence. Divination tools help the seeker to focus (and listen) to divine guidance or spirit by asking the right questions.
The pendulum acts as a form of receiver and transmitter, similar to a radio picking up unseen radio waves. When we ask a question, our unconscious mind responds by influencing the nerve endings in our fingers causing the pendulum to swing in response. In other words, our body outwardly expresses our inner knowing.
Regardless, even if you don’t understand how this works, ANYONE can do it. The only mystical force at work is our body’s intelligence.
DID YOU KNOW? Albert Einstein was known to perform impressive feats with such dowsing tools. He believed that it had to do with electromagnetism: just as birds migrate following the earth’s magnetic field, dowsers react to energies that are unseen and still not fully understood. Other famous dowsing advocates in history include Leonardo De Vinci (inventor), General Patton (US Army), Robert Boyle (father of modern chemistry) and Charles Richet (Nobel Peace prize winner).
Some questions to ask yourself:
What is my favorite crystal?
What is my power stone (I.e. the stone you resonate and work with best)
Am I using this for chakra work?
A few options to order from my shop:
- Rainbow Chakra Dowsing Pendulum
- Chakra Quartz Dowsing Pendulum
- Opal Dowsing Pendulum
- Complete Chakra Dowsing Pendulum Kit
Once you’ve chosen your pendulum, you need to cleanse it of any residual energy it may have picked up along the way.
Some ways to cleanse your pendulum:
- Sage smoke
- Water
- Singing Bowl
- Moonlight
- Cleanse the Aura smudge spray
For me, this includes:
- Smudging my space
- Decorating my board with crystals, earth elements, etc.
- Burn a candle
- Get comfy
Hold about an inch from the top of the pendulum between your thumb and forefinger.
Keep a steady hand (you can rest your elbow if you’d like).
The Law of Free Will reigns supreme on Earth, so your energy can only be infringed upon if you allow it to be. I suggest that the beginning of each dowsing session is led by a visualization.
Try this:
Hold the pendulum in your hand and imagine it surrounded by a white light.
Allow the white light to grow until it covers you and your perimeter.
Say a prayer to your soul (higher self) and spirit guides for protection + clarity.
“This pendulum is a tool for accessing only the highest source of wisdom and guidance for the highest and best good of all, and it is protected from all else. And so it is, forevermore.”
Learn the pendulum movements:
– straight line – side to side or front and back
– circles – clockwise or counterclockwise
– elliptical motion
(Some pendulums bob up and down to indicate strong action, usually affirmative)
Set the intention by asking your pendulum:
“Show me yes”
“Show me no”
“Show me maybe”
Understand how spirit is going to communicate with you by analyzing which movement is a response to which answer.
“Yes” means ___ direction or movement
“No” means ___ direction or movement
“Ask again” or “maybe” means ___ direction or movement
If you have the Pendulum board from my shop’s Chakra Dowsing Pendulum Kit – you need to set the intent and connect your pendulum with the board.
You can do this by –
Holding your pendulum, have it hover over each symbol and speak out loud what it is:
“Sun, moon, mercury..”
“1st chakra, 2nd chakra, 3rd chakra..”
“A, B, C, D..”
“Spirit, water, fire, earth, air”
Like any spiritual tool, pendulums can be misused.
– Don’t overuse or misuse your pendulum (don’t be overly reliant on it’s guidance, take self responsibility and make your own conscious decisions)
– Be sure to be grounded + in the right frame of mind
– Be open and unbiased
– Don’t use your pendulum as a replacement for medical expertise
If you can think of any other ethical concerns, please let me know below! I’d love to hear your thoughts + feedback, especially because I am only a beginner myself 🙂
